What is Self-Love?
Self-Love is a topic that has become quite relevant and meaningful to many people these days.
Have you ever googled the definition of Self-Love?
This is what comes up: Regard for one’s own well-being and happiness.
Pretty vague if you ask me so I decided to come up with my own definition of Self-Love.
Self-Love is loving and supporting yourself unconditionally, no matter what happens. You show love for yourself through your thoughts, beliefs and actions.
Like many girls, the early years of my life were spent searching for a relationship. Yes, I was that hopeless romantic who would give absolutely anything to find true love. My obsession with Rom-Com movies, didn’t make it any easier. I’d always think, one day I’ll meet the man of my dreams, who will love me unconditionally. A man who will accept and love me for all that I am. I loved love. But unfortunately at the time – love didn’t love me. Unhealthy relationships based on dependency of one another, was a normalcy in my life. And when the relationship would end, I’d plummet to a deep, dark space of despair and depression. I was somehow always left feeling so unloved and worthless. Trying to rationalise what had happened only created more self-doubt and criticism. “If only you were ‘prettier, smarter, skinnier, this wouldn’t have happened” my thoughts would repeat over and over.
Looking back, criticising myself was the only thing I knew how to do after a relationship ended.
To tell you the truth, when I first started inquiring on how to ‘fix’ my self-love issues, I was pretty puzzled and overwhelmed. No matter how many self-help books and mindbodygreen articles I read, I couldn’t understand how to go about applying this complex, yet simple theory to my life. And when I would talk to others about self-love, they would feel the same way.
Later on in life, I realised why I welcomed these push-pull, dependent relationships. It was rooted from the ability to love myself. The truth is, at the time – I didn’t like myself. This profound realisation led me on a quest to discover my value, self worth and most importantly my self-love.
Now, if you’re wanting a happy ending to my story – I have one for you! I’m now in a beautiful marriage filled with so much compassion, acceptance and unconditional love. I’m with someone who loves me fully, with no restrictions. This never would’ve happened if I didn’t learn how to love myself.
In order to meet someone who will love you unconditionally, you must first love yourself fully without boundaries. Like attracts like. It’s as simple as that. How can you expect someone to love you, if you don’t love yourself?

When you learn how to love yourself, many aspects in your life start to change. Whether it be finances, love and relationships, health, or career success, things start to shift in a positive way. When you become more confident in who you are from the inside, your outer world changes.
